It's true Manchester has a (possibly undeserved - I'm neutral...) reputation for excessive rainfall, but catch her on a sunny summer's day and the squares, metro platforms & pedestrian areas are full of office workers catching some rays whilst grazing on exotic takeaways in spectacular urban spaces - victorian canalsides, modern plazas and casual pavement cafés...

This area - including Urbis, the Cathedral & the Printworks - is close to the Arndale Centre, bombed in 1996, and is now an eclectic mixture of old & new buildings, open space and large scale award-winning urban sculpture.

If the modern area above is near Victoria Station this, St Peter's Square with the circular Central Library, is nearer Deansgate & Piccadilly stations.
