A section of Sandon dock wall Yes, we still have working docks in Liverpool. In fact after containerisation and the closure of the south docks tonnage went up and now exceeds anything seen before.
There are moves afoot to bring back passenger traffic, and maybe large cruise liners will again be seen at the pierhead - let's hope! Collingwood dock, with Jesse Hartley's famous 1845 six-sided clock tower behind, in Salisbury dock

The former Midland Railway Goods Station, now the Conservation Museum Left you see the former Midland Railway Goods Station (finished in 1874), Victoria & Crosshall streets.
It is now the Conservation Centre for the National Museums & Galleries on Merseyside, and is open to the public in its' own right.


Cockerell's Bank of England building, Castle Street
Right, the building regarded as architect Robert Cockerell's masterpiece, the Branch Bank of England in Castle Street, finished in 1848.

Top Below is the famous "Ye Hole in Ye Wall" pub on Hackins Hey, just round the corner from an equally famous Dale Street drinking spot, Rigby's, and beneath that is one of a series of vignettes set into dock walls on Atlantic Avenue depicting earlier times. Centre-stage is the magnificent glazed cast-iron staircase behind the 16 Cook Street office building - architect Peter Ellis's 1866 masterpiece, and on the right an interior view of the staircase.
